Fresh made donairs, made from your very own kitchen! From the spiced meat to the sweet sauce!
INGREDIENTS
Donair Meat
900 g Ground Beef
1/2 cup Flour
3 tsp Oregano
3 tsp Paprika
3 Garlic cloves, pressed
2 tsp Salt & Onion Powder
1 tsp Black Pepper
A splash of oil
Donairs
1 pack of Sunbake Pita Bakery Wraps (white or brown flour, they usually come with 6 wraps )
Lettuce - Romaine or Green Leaf
1-2 Ripe Tomatoes, chopped
1/2 English Cucumber, sliced
1/2 small White Onion, chopped
6 or so slices of Cheddar Cheese
Sweet Sauce:
1/2 cup Mayonnaise
1/2 cup 10% Cream
2 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp White Wine Vinegar
1/2 tsp Salt
INSTRUCTIONS
Begin by combining ground beef in a large bowl with listed spices and flour. Mix together using your hands until all flour and spices are incorporated with the meat. Shape meat into a roundish loaf. Place in a baking dish lined with parchment. Bake at 350 F for about an hour and a half, until an inserted meat thermometer reads 160 F.
Once cooked remove meat from oven and let sit for a few minutes. You can just slice & serve the donair meat, or try wrapping it up in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 12 hours, then carve with a sharp knife into thin pieces. Both ways are quite tasty. However the refrigerated way means your meat sticks together better but is better heated up again. This can be done just in a drying pan with a bit of oil.
To make Sweet Sauce:
Combine listed ingredients in a medium sized bowl. Whisk together until smooth.
Put into a creamer pitcher or squeeze bottle for easy use.
To make wraps:
Take 1 Pita & fill with your favorite assortment of Lettuce, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Onion, Cheddar Cheese, Donair meat and Sweet Sauce!
Wrap it up & enjoy! It might be messy but also very tasty! Try it with Fries, Tatter Tots or Onion Rings.
